The Foreigner (non-Jewish woman) woman in Bible versus Quran (14)
This is the fourteenth article of the series: "The Foreigner woman in Bible versus Quran"
In the previous articles, we have seen that from the Language point of view, the "foreign" woman is the alien or the exotic or the outsider woman. However, the Bible has another notion. As confirmed by the Bible, the "foreign" woman is the non-Israelite woman or the non-Jewish woman.
As a result, any non-Israelite or any non-Jewish woman is a "foreign" woman.
This indicates that the women in the Bible are but one of two categories; they are either Legitimate (genuine) or Foreign (strange).
In the present article, we will analyze and discuss the translation of one verse that talks about both the "the foreign woman" and the "strange women" in 18 different versions of the Bible. Although this issue needs some persistence and alertness; however, it deserves studying to prove how incorrectly the translators of some Biblical versions did their Job in reference to the original Hebrew Scripture.
Very simply, the verse, Proverbs 23:27, says:
"For the adulteress is a deep pit and the strange woman is a narrow pit"
This is the straightforward translation of the original Hebrew verse that mentions "the adulteress" and the "strange woman ".
Herein, we will talk about the translation of the above simple verse.
This verse is composed of two parts: "the adulteress is a deep pit + the strange woman is a narrow pit"
Now, let us see how do 18 Biblical versions translate these two parts of the above verse?
(1) How do 18 Biblical versions translate "the adulteress is a deep pit"?
The adulteress is translated to
- A prostitute in seven versions
- A harlot in five versions
- A whore in four versions
- An adulterous woman in one version
- Bad women in one version
(2) How do 18 Biblical versions translate the strange woman is a narrow pit?
the strange (Non-Jewish) woman is translated to
- A strange woman in four versions
- A wayward wife in three versions
- A loose woman in two versions
- An adulteress in one version
- An adulterous woman in one version
- A wife who commits adultery in one version
- A seductress in one version
- A promiscuous woman in one version
- A foreign woman in one version in one version
- A forbidden woman in one version in one version
- Unfaithful wife in one version in one version

About the Biblical Translation of "Adulteress"
Adulteress is translated in one out of 18 Biblical versions to an adulterous woman. Only one out of 18 versions translates it correctly!
In 16 out of 18 versions it is translated to a prostitute in seven versions, a harlot in five versions and a whore in four versions.
A prostitute, harlot and whore are women who engage in promiscuous sexual intercourse, usually for money.
On the other hand, the adulterous relationship is the voluntary sexual intercourse between a married person and someone other than his or her lawful spouse; such relationship is not essentially for money.
About the Biblical Translation of "strange woman"
1. A loose woman is an adulterous woman or adulteress
2. The seductress is the woman who seduces, to persuade or induce to have sexual intercourse, to lead astray, as from duty, rectitude, or the like; to lead or draw away, as from principles, faith, or allegiance.
3. A promiscuous woman is the one who is characterized by or involving indiscriminate mingling or association, esp. having sexual relations with a number of partners on a casual basis.
4. A wayward woman is the one who turned away from what is right or proper; willful; disobedient, headstrong, stubborn, obstinate, unruly, refractory, intractable
5. In addition, Unfaithful means cheating, deceitful, double-crossing, faithless, false, false-hearted, fickle, foresworn, inconstant, incontinent, moonlighting, not true to, of bad faith, perfidious, philandering, recreant, shifty, snaky, sneaking, traitorous, treacherous, treasonable, two-faced, two-timing, unchaste, unreliable, untrue, untrustworthy, wicked; however, strange woman is translated to "Unfaithful wife" and "Unfaithful WIVES" in one Biblical version each.
All these meanings are not by any means the synonyms of "strange woman"
Also, it is interesting that woman is translated to "wife" in four versions and to "WIVES", the plural form, in one version. As a matter of fact, I do not understand why the Bible translators do that? However, I am sure they know English and Hebrew better than me.
This is Not the word of God
The Biblical Versions that add their own ideas or opinions as if it is the Word of God
Upon comparing the Word of God from its original source that says:
"For the adulteress is a deep pit and the strange woman is a narrow pit"
We find out that some Biblical versions add statements that are not the Word of God.
These Biblical Versions says:
1) for a harlot is a deep pit And an adulterous woman is a narrow well. unfaithfully against our God by marrying foreign women?"
2) a whore is a bottomless pit; a loose woman can get you in deep trouble fast.
3) a prostitute is a dangerous trap; a promiscuous woman is as dangerous as falling into a narrow well.
4) a prostitute is as dangerous as a deep pit, and an unfaithful wife is like a narrow well.
5) a prostitute is like a deep pit. A wife who commits adultery is like a narrow well.
6) Bad women and unfaithful wives are like a deep pit
Conclusion:
1) The 18 Biblical versions studied could not translate 11 simple Hebrew words correctly.
2) 12 Biblical versions translate "foreign" woman to adulterous woman, immoral woman, Forbidden woman, sinful woman, Temptress and unfaithful wife.
Herein, we have two questions for the translators of the Bible:
- Are the "foreign" non-Jewish women adulterous, immoral, Forbidden woman, sinful, Temptress and unfaithful.
- Are not your these Biblical translations hurts the non-Jewish women?
The Biblical Versions that add their own ideas or opinions as if it is the Word of God
- New American Standard Bible (NASB) For a harlot is a deep pit And an adulterous woman is a narrow well. unfaithfully against our God by marrying foreign women?"
- The Message (MSG) A whore is a bottomless pit; a loose woman can get you in deep trouble fast.
- New Living Translation (NLT) A prostitute is a dangerous trap; a promiscuous woman is as dangerous as falling into a narrow well.
- New Century Version (NCV) A prostitute is as dangerous as a deep pit, and an unfaithful wife is like a narrow well.
- New International Reader's Version (NIRV) A prostitute is like a deep pit. A wife who commits adultery is like a narrow well.
- Contemporary English Version (CEV) Bad women and unfaithful wives are like a deep pit—
The Biblical Versions that do not add their own ideas or opinions
- New International Version (NIV) for a prostitute is a deep pit and a wayward wife is a narrow well.
- Amplified Bible (AMP) For a harlot is a deep ditch, and a loose woman is a narrow pit.
- King James Version (KJV) For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.
- English Standard Version (ESV) For a prostitute is a deep pit; an adulteress is a narrow well.
- New King James Version (NKJV) For a harlot is a deep pit, And a seductress is a narrow well.
- 21st Century King James Version (KJ21) for a whore is a deep ditch, and a strange woman is a narrow pit.
- American Standard Version (ASV) For a harlot is a deep ditch; And a foreign woman is a narrow pit.
- Young's Literal Translation (YLT) For a harlot [is] a deep ditch, And a strange woman [is] a strait pit.
- Darby Translation (DARBY) For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.
- Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB) For a prostitute is a deep pit, and a forbidden woman is a narrow well;
- New International Version - UK (NIVUK) for a prostitute is a deep pit and a wayward wife is a narrow well.
- Today's New International Version (TNIV) for an adulterous woman is a deep pit and a wayward wife is a narrow well.

The issue of the Foreigner woman in the Quran
In the entire Quran, the term "foreign woman" and/or "strange woman" is not mentioned therein; all women are equal in respect to their rights and responsibilities regardless of race, color, location etc.

Are the Scholars truthful when they claim that the Quran quoted from the Bible?
